It is known that when we pray it is important not to make the acceptance of our prayers contingent on our own merits. In fact, it is forebidden to do so. Instead we must hang our prayers on HaShem's infinite kindness.

The Komarna Rebbe, in his sefer Netiv Mitzwothecha, (2:3) explains why: When the influx of blessing is clothed in HaShem's kindness, nothing can taint it, for HaShem's hesed is so infinite and pure that it negates the influence of the other side. When we pray it is therefore of great importance that we beseech HaShem that all of His blessing be founded in His kindness, so that it will affect good and blessing in us and our surroundings, without being commandeered by external forces.
