fathers and sons

The Noam Elimelech (parashath Bamidbar) remarks on a simple every day phenomenon:
When a child suffers and cries, his father will give him some treat to distract him from the pain, even though he cannot undo the child's suffering.

In the case of HaShem, he goes on to explain, the matter is very different. When someone cries out in prayer to HaShem in the moment of his difficulty, not only does HaShem take away the source of that difficulty but he also bestows upon him all manner of blessing.
