A news article explained that dwarfs were sometimes revered in ancient egypt.. Interesting in light of the midrash (which i always took to imply many complicated and subtle spiritual implications--the most relevant to channukah is that God's divine presence, the shechinah, never dwells below 10 tefahim (except on hannukah)) which says that Pharoah in the time of the exodus from egypt was only 9 tefahim (hand-breadths) tall. [keep in mind that the same midrash states that Moses was 10 amoth (cubits) tall]
